Christy Punnett was born in Saint Vincent. Her work has always been shaped by two landscapes: the Caribbean islands of her birth, and the windswept islands off the west coast of Scotland where her family's roots lie. That double inheritance, Caribbean and Celtic, runs through everything she teaches.
She began studying wellness modalities in her early twenties, while raising three daughters and her younger son, and has been teaching for nearly three decades since. Her path took her through the upper echelons of yoga, and she came out the other side with something different: a decolonised practice. So much of how we are taught to move has been shaped by people who want to make us "right", to fit us to a particular idea of what a human being should be. Christy asks the opposite question. What kind of human are you beneath all of that?
Artemis Movement is her answer. It is a postural movement system built from what her own body needed and what current science most clearly supports. It is a practice of depth rather than mastery. There is no final form to perfect. Instead, the practice reveals deeper and deeper layers of insight into your own patterns. Among her mentors is Tom Myers, founder of Anatomy Trains. Her ongoing conversations with him about the Deep Front Line and the fascial body continue to inform her development of the work, but the Artemis system is entirely her own.
Christy calls herself a human anatomy enthusiast and an immersive naturalist. She is as much at home in a dissection lab as walking the moors. That curiosity led her to doctoral research at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill. There she is developing aisthesiology, the study of pre-reflective bodily knowing, across Celtic and Caribbean traditions. Her research and her teaching are one body of work. What she learns as a scholar finds its way into the practice, and what she sees in the studio shapes the questions she asks as a scholar. She is also a trained doula.
Now living mostly in Saint Vincent and Barbados, Christy teaches the weekly online classes at the heart of the Artemis community and leads retreats and intensives internationally. She has extensive experience working one-to-one with private clients, guiding them through injury rehabilitation and supporting their continued growth long after recovery. She also leads the Artemis Apprenticeship, a year-long course in a profoundly connected way of living. It is the first step for anyone who wants to become an Artemis teacher, and it is just as suited to someone who wants to live a more meaningful life. Christy mentors the teachers who go on from there, and her faculty now spans several countries.
